Seven years ago, a family member brought home a Pomeranian named Mantou.

He was our first real introduction to life with a dog. Mantou loves being close to people. More than anything, he simply wants to be with you. Through him, we came to understand that companionship does not always need an activity or an occasion. Having a little creature who keeps choosing to be near you is something precious in itself.

Later, Rollie joined our family. But first, there was a honeymoon.

Some journeys leave you wanting to live a little differently.

Picture a small moment on a European street: a dog stops to investigate an unremarkable corner of the pavement. Their person stops too, leaving a little slack in the lead. There is no hurry—just a brief pause. When the dog looks up, they carry on together.

What makes the moment lovely is those few seconds of waiting: someone naturally slowing their pace for another little life.

In 2023, we travelled through Europe on our honeymoon. In Spain, the Netherlands, Germany, the UK and beyond, we noticed so many lovely little moments between dogs and their people. Different cities, different rhythms of life, yet the same easy closeness. Dogs were part of the everyday, with a place in both people’s routines and their hearts.

Those details kept catching our attention. They also made us want to welcome more of that companionship into our own lives.

We may not remember every scene now, but we brought the feeling home.

The very next day, before we had even recovered from the jet lag, we got up, eager to welcome a new member of the family.

That day, a new little life became part of ours. There was someone new to care for, someone new to love, and a whole collection of shared moments still ahead of us.

Her name was Rollie.

"Mantou wants your company. Rollie wants a playmate."

Rollie is our Corgi girl, and her personality is quite different from Mantou’s.

For Mantou, happiness is being close to his favourite people. For Rollie, it often means finding other dogs to play with—and once she gets going, she is wonderfully full of energy.

One loves closeness; the other brings a little chaos. We love more than their adorable faces. We love the distinct personalities behind them.

Then we began wanting to hold on to who they were, right then.

Living with them made us realise how quickly time passes.

They look a little different at every stage. When we look through old photographs, it is that particular Mantou, that particular Rollie, we want to remember: an especially endearing expression, a photo we cannot quite scroll past, and the chapter of our lives that surrounds it.

That is why we began making pet portraits.

Waglow & Co. grew from this deeply personal wish: to turn a face in a photograph into a handmade piece you can keep close.

We pay attention to the edges of their markings, the expression in their eyes, and the small features that make them instantly recognisable to you. Because one of the loveliest moments a pet portrait can bring is when you look at it and say:
